I’m going to talk about Derek and his character development so far in season 3. And also about Ms Blake.
I’m writing a long post about this. But meanwhile, all I’m going to say is this: I don’t ship Derek/Ms Blake. I don’t hate Ms Blake, though. I don’t hate the ship, either. I respect if people ship them. They just don’t work for me, and I’m writing exactly why, so everyone can read and decide on their own.

THIS WEEK ON TEEN WOLF: SOMEONE PROTECT STILES AND HIS VIRGINITY (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Time for Stiles to lose his virginity for safety reasons (I’ve read this fic I swear to god)
Stiles being smart is so hot.

OMG STILES IS CRYING

“NINE YEARS I THOUGHT SHE DIED IN THE FIRE.”
AND I’M HERE LIKE

It’s not clear at the moment if Cora’s serving Deucalion of her own free will or if she’s just another one of his pawns.
But if Cora proves to be the killing machine that Deucalion wants her to be, will Derek — who seemed uncharacteristically moved at the sight of her — be able to stop her? He’s certainly tough as nails, but everyone’s got their Achilles’ heel, and his long-lost sister might be just the thing to reveal his weakness.
I feel like MTV Remote Control is telling us more than we needed to know.

“You’re too old to be so shy,” he says to me so I stay the night
Just a young heart confusing my mind, but we’re both in silence
Wide-eyed, like we’re in a crime scene.
There was that speech he gave the betas about the triskelion and about how pack rank is all circular and intertwined. I think an alpha can probably be deposed and become a beta, or lose their pack and become an omega. PLEASE DON’T BE FORESHADOWING.
Yeah, I remember that talk. I’m so upset right now, you have no idea. If Derek stops being the alpha, I’m gonna cry blood tears.
And you know Peter knows all this. He’s waiting, calculating, gathering strength, getting ready to attack in the right moment to get all his power back. >:((
That was the same ep where possessed Lydia kidnapped Derek to bring Peter back, and they had that shot of the red fading out of his eyes. I was absolutely convinced that the scene talking about the triskelion was there to foreshadow Derek losing his alpha status and it happened in the same ep. Obviously it didn’t, but ever since then I’ve been waiting because I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen.
That said, I’m ok with it IF:
1) That means Derek survives the series. Out of all the main 5 characters left, he’s the one I can most easily see sacrificing his life to save the others, mostly because he kind of hates his life and dying to save others would appeal to him. So if him dropping back down to beta or omega status allows Davis to keep him alive, I’m fine with that.
2) In doing so, Davis doesn’t make him Scott’s beta. You have no idea how I would rail against that, but I can absolutely see how that could be a storyline Davis would find appealing - the teen wolf coming into his own as Alpha and leader of a pack, including the guy who tried to teach him at the beginning - the passing of the guard so to speak. I would hate that purely because I don’t think Derek and Scott are compatible as packmates/brothers and I don’t like the idea of Derek being subservient to Scott (nor vice versa). I’d much rather in this scenario Derek quietly accepts that Scott is now Alpha of Beacon Hills and he goes his own way as an omega or with another pack (maybe a beta pack, why not, there’s an Alpha pack after all).
I’m not so invested in the idea of Alpha Derek that I want him to stay Alpha no matter what. I’m not sure he thinks he makes a good Alpha right now, even though he’s trying harder and knows he made mistakes, so maybe not being one would be a relief. I don’t know, I just know to me there are far worse scenarios than Derek losing his Alpha-ness.
My main problem with this is that it seems like it’d be better if Derek just gave up, allowed Scott be the alpha and went quietly away from Beacon Hills. And well, with all due respect but, fuck this shit, you know?
Derek is not a perfect Alpha, nor is he a perfect person. He makes mistakes. But he’s also trying to do the right thing in his own way. What’s interesting for me is his development, the journey from the first season up till now and why he’s changed the way he has. The fact that right now he’s not so sure he makes a good Alpha is what makes me hold onto this with all I have. It means he’s growing as an Alpha and person. And I want more of that. All of it.
I’m not saying I’m so invested in Alpha!Derek that I’d rather he died then go back to being a Beta or Omega. But I consider that if he goes back to either of those, it won’t be the end of his journey. Like you said, if he became Scott’s Beta, I can’t see things working for them. So what’s the alternative? He becomes an omega and goes away so he didn’t have to be killed off in the plot? Sorry, but no matter how much it hurts me to say this, I’d rather he died in a better plot, saving his pack for example. I want him to survive, but not at all costs. The character’s integrity is important, too. Derek has been fighting for years not to give up. You can’t write him doing so as his ending just because it’s convenient. He’s a survivor, a fighter, his will to live and go on is outstanding. I can’t see Jeff giving him that ending.
Anyway, I know Derek fits in the mentor trope (among others), but I don’t see Jeff following up to the end and killing Scott’s mentor (plus, it’s not like Scott has ever allowed him to be his mentor, properly). I think he has better and more interesting things in store for Derek. The character might lose his Alpha status in the future, or become an Alpha without pack, but that won’t be his end I assume.
Yeah… I’m pretty sure that was a big foreshadowing for what’s to come between Derek and Isaac this season.
I’m not sure I’ll be able to survive if Isaac leaves Derek’s pack, too. Because you know Derek already blames himself enough for what happened to Erica and Boyd. If his last beta leaves him because he blames Derek, I’m not sure what that might do to Derek.
